Financial Obligations:
(as
of August 2007)
There
are some expenses that our members incur. It is hoped that
none
of these are a hardship on any member or potential member.
Please
speak to the treasurer if there is an issue.
Dues:
$15, due in September (the beginning of our fiscal year).
Discounted rates are available for people in the same family.
Polo Shirts. The band wears
polo shirts with our
logo for summer concerts. While the band subsidizes the cost
of
these, each band member will need to buy a shirt for these concerts.
See the treasurer regarding the current cost.
BAND
ETIQUETTE GUIDELINES
(as of September 16, 2005)
Promptness
- Arrive in time to prepare your instrument, music,
stand and chair so
that you are ready to tune at the start of rehearsal. If you are late,
enter
and set up quickly and quietly.
- Review the list of
music for the rehearsal on the white board and assemble
your music in advance to minimize delay between pieces.
- Arrive
at concerts at least 20 minutes in advance, unless unusual
circumstances
require special consideration and an earlier arrival.
Absence
- If you will miss a rehearsal, inform either the
director or your section leader in advance.
- If you
will miss a concert, inform both the director and your section leader
as far in advance as possible.
- When you miss a
rehearsal or concert, make sure your music is available
to other members, even if you are the only one on your part. Either
give
your music folder to someone to bring to the rehearsal or concert or
leave
the folder in the box the week before.
Rehearsal Deportment
- Talk as needed to resolve questions with the music;
but otherwise, be polite to the conductor.
- Return
promptly from the break.
Concert Deportment
- Posture is important. Sit up straight with legs
uncrossed.
- Hold instrument as directed by section
leader.
- Do not tap foot visibly.
- Keep
rest counting to yourself, unless you are helping someone who is lost.
- About
five minutes before the concert, the concertmaster will tune the
ensemble – first brasses, then woodwinds.
- Stand
when the conductor enters the stage; follow the lead of the
concertmaster.
Turn immediately toward the audience. Then sit as directed by the
conductor.
- If you are asked to stand for an
especially amazing solo passage, do it immediately and politely
acknowledge the audience.
- If you are on stage
while an ensemble is performing or something else
is happening that is part of the program, please do not talk.
- Return
promptly to the stage after intermission.
- At the
end of the concert, watch the conductor and be prepared to stand
and face the audience. Watch the concertmaster for the cue to sit back
down.
Equipment
- Return clips, lights, black folders and music when
not in use.
- Help to clean up after a performance.
- If
it is your section’s turn to do concert setup, please be
available
before and after the concert to help with this. Your section
leader will determine who needs to do what.
