The East Winds Symphonic Band invites applications to perform as part of the 5th annual Three Rivers Community Band Festival on Saturday, May 3, 2008.  Begun in 2004, the Festival highlights the wonderful tradition of community concert bands in southwestern Pennsylvania.  It has been quite successful in its early years, with audiences of several hundred and exposure for the bands on WQED-FM.   Information on the festival and its history is available at :   http://www.ewsb.org/festival

We welcome invitations from community bands in southwest Pennsylvania.   One or two applicant bands will be selected to perform at this year's festival.  To apply, a band should submit an application form and an audio sample of the band.  Application should be received by November 1, 2007.    Application materials should be mailed to:

The 5th annual Three Rivers Community Band Festival will be held at Upper St. Clair Theatre, Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 3, 2008.   Beginning at 2:30 pm, the festival will feature up to 5 bands performing programs of their choice.   Musicians and audience are invited to mingle in the cafeteria during a reception following the festival.

Bands will be contacted about acceptance to perform at the 2008 festival by December 12, 2007.   

We look forward to receiving your application.  We also hope you will consider attending the festival regardless of application or acceptance.


Expectations of bands performing in 2008 are:

  • perform a 20-minute concert at the festival
  • by February 15, 2008:
    • pay a $100 non-refundable festival support fee
    • provide a tentative/working program (Bands working on the same piece will be notified by February 20, 2008 in order to consider alternate programming.)
    • provide information on appropriate advertising venues in their area of origin
  • by April 1, 2008: 
    • provide final information for the printed programs  (The festival handles printing arrangements and costs.)
    • provide program notes for use by announcer
    • submit all requests for percussion equipment.   (See below for what is provided.)
    • requests for piano (there will be a tuning charge split among groups requesting this)
  • bring 30 dozen cookies for the reception (home-made and/or store bought)


The Festival provides for performing bands:
  • Program printing for the festival
  • Pre-festival advertising
  • On-stage chairs
  • 70 music stands on-stage
  • Podium for conductor
  • Conductor's music stand
  • Percussion equipment:
    • bass drum
    • snare drum
    • tympani (4 drums)
    • chimes
    • other equipment may be requested.  We will attempt to accomodate such requests, but there are no guarantees.  You should plan to bring any other equipment you need.
  • Piano.  This must be requested one month prior to festival.  There will be a tuning charge to requesters.
  • A table in the lobby on which you may put promotional materials
